Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has been suffering a crushing defeat in the box office, is seeking to revive with "Avengers: Doomsday," for which the cast has now been revealed.
Marvel Studio uploaded a surprise announcement on its official YouTube channel on March 27th, Thursday about the cast of the next Avengers movie, “Avengers: Doomsday.”
This is the fifth movie in the Avengers series that has recently started filming and is scheduled to be released in May of next year, 2026.

Major actors from X-Men, which was transferred from Fox to Disney through a corporate acquisition, will return in the movie including Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
While Kelsey Grammer’s Beast was hinted to return after he briefly appeared in the MCU movie “The Marvels” post-credit scene, the inclusion of all main characters of X-Men was an unexpected development.
Another X-Men member, Channing Tatum’s Gambit will also return.
He originally planned to play Gambit in his solo movie but it was canceled due to the merger of Fox.
However, he firstly appeared in the MCU with “DeadPool & Wolverine” and showed his unique action scenes and characteristics.
In a deleted scene of “DeadPool & Wolverine,” Gambit smiles at a magical dimension portal which implies his comeback to the MCU.
Moreover, Loki’s story seemed to end with Loki being the god of the timeline in the Disney+ drama series Loki season 2 but he will return in the film for unknown reasons.
Many fans expect Loki to show his power as a hero who has control of the timeline or assembles heroes against the strong villain, Doctor Doom who threatens all timelines.
Due to the success and great reception from fans of the Loki drama series, the casting of Tom Hiddleston has contributed to massive anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday.
Members of Thunderbolts*, the movie which will be released this May, are confirmed to appear in the movie.
However, only one member, Olga Kurylenko who plays Taskmaster is not in the cast list so many fans predict that she will die or retire in Thunderbolts*.
At the end of the announcement video, Marvel Studios emphasized that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU for the first time since "Avengers: End Game" in 2019.
In the upcoming movie, which is expected to open a new chapter for the MCU, Robert Downey Jr who has led the MCU as Iron Man will transform into the main villain Dr. Doom.
Anthony and Joe Russo who directed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in 2014, "Avengers: Infinity War" in 2018 and "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019. The Rousseau brothers will also be in charge of directing the sixth film of the series, "Avengers: Secret Wars," which will be released in 2027.
