FIFA has officially opened applications for its 2026 World Cup Volunteer Program, initiating what is expected to be the largest volunteer campaign in the organization’s history.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is projected to recruit more than 65,000 volunteers from around the world.
This unprecedented effort offers football enthusiasts a unique opportunity to be directly involved in one of the world’s most watched sporting events.
To qualify, applicants must meet specific conditions.
They must be at least 18 years old at the time of registration and comply with the entry requirements of the host country where they intend to serve.
Each selected volunteer is expected to commit to a minimum of eight shifts during the tournament period, which will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Although the eligibility rules are relatively straightforward, age limits and language skills may pose challenges.
Applicants who demonstrate proficiency in English, as well as additional languages, will have an edge during the selection process.
Moreover, shortlisted candidates must participate in mandatory volunteer team tryouts, designed to prepare them for their assignments and ensure smooth operations once the tournament begins.
For those who make the cut, the experience will begin months before the opening match.
Between October 2025 and January 2026, volunteers will attend training and team tryouts, giving them a chance to meet fellow participants and gain insights into the scale and operations of the World Cup.
From December 2025 to March 2026, FIFA will extend official role offers, specifying the duties that each volunteer will be expected to carry out.
Following the offers, volunteers will undergo mandatory training from March until the tournament’s kickoff.
Training sessions will equip them for a wide range of responsibilities, from access management and accreditation to accommodation services and guest support.
Guest operations, in particular, will focus on guiding visitors to their seats and helping ensure a welcoming and organized match-day experience.
FIFA has highlighted several benefits of joining the program.
Volunteers will receive official FIFA World Cup uniforms, certificates of participation, and meals will be provided during shifts.
Beyond these perks, they will acquire practical skills, professional experience and cultural connections that could prove valuable long after the final whistle.
To apply, interested individuals must first create an account of the FIFA volunteering website.
Once registered, applicants can select their preferred host country and city, select their desired roles and complete an online assessment to finalize their application.
With its call for tens of thousands of volunteers, FIFA’s 2026 World Cup not only promises a historic sporting event but also a celebration of community engagement.
The tournament is expected to showcase how the dedication of everyday people helps bring the global football spectacle to life, uniting fans across continents in a shared passion for the game.
