On July 20, 2025, a five-year-old boy from Las Vegas became a piano prodigy and made history at Carnegie Hall, making him the youngest pianist ever to perform there.
This brilliant young musician is Alec Van Khajadourian, whose talent captured the hearts of audiences and musicians.
Alec has shown that passion and dedication know no age limits.
At only the age of five, he has already competed in several piano competitions, winning all of them in his age group.
According to his parents, he is a cheerful and playful child who enjoys dressing up in Spider-Man costumes with his little brother and running around the house.
But when it comes to music, Alec’s attitude changes completely as he becomes calm, focused, and deeply immersed in the music.
Alec’s love for music started as a toddler.
His parents remember him reaching for the piano keys and experimenting with sounds before he could even read or write.
They also recall that he often listened to songs from children’s shows and figured out the melodies entirely by ear.
By the age of four, Alec started performing classical masterpieces by famous composers like Beethoven and Mozart.
Carnegie Hall, one of the most famous concert venues in the world, has hosted legendary pianists such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Arthur Rubinstein, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
For more than 130 years, the hall has been a dream stage for the world’s most skilled musicians after years of training and dedication.
Yet, Alec, who is still in kindergarten, achieved this goal before most children can even play a full song.
Behind his hard work, Alec also has a rare ability called perfect pitch.
This trait found in roughly one in ten thousand people lets him recognize or play musical notes without needing any help.
Thanks to this gift, he learned difficult piano pieces much faster than others and could memorize entire songs just by listening to them. Recognizing his extraordinary talent, Alec’s parents searched for teachers who could guide his growth and help him reach his full potential.
Their support led him to his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Gala concert, where the audience was captivated by his flawless technique and confidence. His small hands moved quickly across the keys, filling the hall with beautiful, moving music.
When Alec finished, the crowd rose for a standing ovation.
When he was asked what he liked best about playing at Carnegie Hall, he said “The big piano and all the clapping.”
The director of the Gala Concert said that Alec’s debut was an “incredible achievement” and praised him as an inspiration for young musicians everywhere.
Even after all his awards and recognition, Alec’s parents remind everyone that he is still a regular five-year-old who loves to laugh, play outdoors, and spend time with family.
Alec may have the skill of an adult musician, but he still has the heart of a child.
