The Attorney General of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against the popular online gaming platform Roblox, citing that the company failed to adequately safeguard children from predators and sexual content.
The legal action comes shortly after public outcry for Roblox’s decision to ban content creator Schlep, who described himself as a “vigilante” exposing predators on the platform.
Schlep has claimed that his efforts publicly identified users targeting children and even led to the arrests of multiple predators.
The ban faced wide criticism from the community.
Many accused Roblox of ignoring long-standing safety concerns and at the same time silencing someone who tried to address them.
In response, Roblox published a statement on its website, saying it took actions against “behaviors that are both unacceptable and create an unsafe environment for users.”
The stakes are high for Roblox, which reported in July 2025 that out of its 111.8 million daily active users, more than one-third, or 36 percent, were under the age of 13.
Attorney General Liz Murill’s lawsuit alleges that Roblox failed to implement basic protective measures, including proper age verification and parental consent checks.
“Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,” Murill said in a statement.
This is not the first time Roblox has faced litigation over safety issues.
On August 4, 2025, a Californian family sued the company for negligence, claiming their 10-year-old daughter was kidnapped by a 27-year-old man she met through the game.
Police later found the child over 250 miles away from her home after the alleged predator communicated with her through Roblox and the popular online messaging app Discord.
In another case, a federal lawsuit was filed after a predator posed as a child on Roblox to sexually exploit a 10-year-old in Michigan, allegedly persuading the victim to send sexually explicit images of herself.
The complaint stated, “What Roblox represents as a safe, appropriate space for children is, in fact, a digital and real-life nightmare for kids.”
The negative press on Roblox has severely impacted the company, and its shares price fell by more than 6% following the controversy.
Roblox has defended its record, with a company spokesperson saying, “While no system is perfect, Roblox has implemented rigorous safeguards — such as restrictions on sharing personal information, links, and user-to-user image sharing — to help protect our community.”
However, pressure continued to mount on Roblox.
Schelp posted a photo of a cease-and-desist notice Roblox sent him, fueling further community outrage and damaging the reputation of CEO David Baszucki.
Congressman Ro Khanna has since launched a petition urging Roblox to act in the face of this controversy to protect children on its platform.
“We're not going to stand by while kids are exploited online, and powerful tech companies can do more to stop it,” the petition reads.
Adding to the spotlight, television celebrity Chris Hansen, the former host of To Catch a Predator, announced on X that he will investigate “the Roblox story.”
Concerns over child safety on Roblox are not new.
As far back as 2021, reports highlighted issues of predators exploiting minors on the platform.
That year, the YouTube channel People Makes Games released a video of an interview with an anonymous 12-year-old victim who had been coerced into sexting with a 24-year-old user.
Roblox has mostly come out of such past controversies unscathed and unchanged, continuing to leave these problems mostly unresolved.
Now, with lawsuits at both the state and federal levels, mounting public anger, pressure from lawmakers, and renewed media attention, the question remains: will Roblox finally be forced to take more decisive action, or will it once again escape with little change?
