In July 2025, a widespread fear washed across Japan, because of a predicted earthquake and tsunami from a manga called, “The Future I Saw” by Ryo Tatsuki.
This manga artist is known to be able to predict many other disasters, like a massive seismic disaster on or around July 5th, 2025.
Now, the question is: why do the people of Japan believe in this manga artist?
Ryo Tatsuki has also dreamt of many other disasters like, the 1995 Kobe earthquake and the 2011 Tōhoku disaster.
Not only did she predict the disasters, but her dreams were also shockingly accurate.
Tatsuki’s dream and manga led to a panic across East Asia, especially in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
This made a lot of people believe that the prediction from the manga was true because of her accurate predictions from before, and they began to move to safer areas.
This rumor led to many people canceling travels and some airlines even canceled routes to southern Japan and nearby areas, because so many people didn’t want to travel there.
Even though Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world, because of how many earthquakes they have had, Japan has special warning systems, like J-Alert, that can quickly tell the people in Japan if an earthquake is coming.
Unfortunately, the rumor spread fast on TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms, causing more worry and concern.
Tatsuki says that she has had many other dreams, about different accidents like missing people, construction accidents, and more.
She says that at that time she didn’t know what the dreams meant, but a couple of months later her dreams came true.
Around July, over 1,000 small earthquakes happened near the Tokara Islands, which made people and locals even more nervous.
But scientists and Japan’s weather agency agree that there is no way to know exactly when or where an earthquake will happen, and that the comic is just a story, not science.
They explained that small earthquakes happen all the time in Japan because it’s in a place where the Earth’s plates move a lot.
Even though Japan is always prepared for earthquakes with warning systems and strong buildings, there was no real sign that a giant earthquake was coming in July 2025.
Scientists say that the manga is meant to make people think about preparing for emergencies, not for predicting the future.
Scientists and other experts aren’t sure whether Tatsuki's dreams and predictions are true or not, but they are sure that no one can be certain exactly when an earthquake will happen.
In the end, there was no earthquake on July 5th, 2025, and scientists say that in order for people to be safe, they should stay calm and listen to official information, not to scary rumors and predictions online.
